Porto Rotondo is north east of Sardinia and is part of Olbia’s Municipality. Its area extends for 300 hectares approximately, from the Gulf of Cugnana up to the Gulf of Marinella. Its most important beaches are: spiaggia Punta Lepre (Sporting), spiaggia Ira, Punta Nuraghe, spiaggia dei Sassi, spiaggia delle Alghe, Punta Volpe, Punta Lada and the big, awesome beach called Marinella. During summer these beaches are connected one another thanks to a free non-stop service with shuttle buses called Maremare.
Punta Lepre (Sporting) beach
This beach at the entrance of the Port is a landmark of PortoRotondo. It borders on the beach in front of Hotel Sporting and it is reachable on foot walking on the Port’s wet dock up to the Yacht Club.
Rudalza beach
This little stretch of sand is close to the famous Piazzetta Rudalza. To reach it, it is necessary to pass by Via del Plumbago, taking the second street on the right.
Ira beach
Historically, it is the first of the beaches of the Gulf of Cugnana. Straight before the entrance to the village, reaching Porto Rotondo, take the street to Rudargia on the left. After 1 km approx you’ll find a wide parking area which is about 1 km from the beach - accessible on foot - where white, fine sand contrasts with blue-green water. Sandy, low floor make this beach particularly suitable for children and bathing. On the beach there is plenty of facilities, including a Resort, restaurants and pizza restaurants.
Punta Nuraghe
At the back of the homonym promontory where there is a thousand-year-old nuraghe, the sandy shore of the beach called "contro Ira" has coarse ochre shaded sand and overlooks the Gulf of Cugnana and Punta Asfodeli. The beach called "contro Ira" together with the small and beauty beach of "bolta e carru" are free beaches most of the tourists visiting Porto Rotondo frequent. The nuraghic site - recently cleaned up - is now a cultural attraction.
Spiaggia dei Sassi (Stones’ beach)
This beach is characterized by fine sand and small light grey stones, surrounded by a fantastic cliff. From the village center, proceed in direction of Punta Volpe until you find a wide parking area. Well equipped facilities, low and still water, sandy seafloor make this beach particularly suitable for children and bathing.
Shirley Bassey beach
Extra white sand and crystal water: this lovely cove owes its appellation to the name of one of its first haunters. It is reachable walking along the coast north direction, right after Spiaggia dei Sassi.
Spiaggia Hruska
Straight after Shirley Bassey beach and before Punta Volpe we find a little beach called Hruska, with its white sand and crystal water.
Spiaggia delle Alghe (Seaweed beach)
At the back of Spiaggia dei Sassi, in front of the Island of Mortorio, there is Spiaggia delle Alghe which is characterized by fine sand and green algae. Rocky seabed and surrounding coves make this beach particularly suitable for snorkeling and underwater activities. Beach umbrellas and sunbeds available on payment.
Punta Volpe
ts name comes from the peculiar shape of the stretch of land extending up to the sea, with the beautiful "Punta Volpe" beach on its point. Its still emerald water and its surrounding cliff make this beach particularly inviting for underwater activities lovers.
Punta Lada
To reach it, simply follow Porto Rotondo’s main street, in direction of Punta Lada. Approximately one km and a half from the village, there is the coast rich in sand, rocky coves and typical maquis. Worth to mention is "Marina Piccola" beach, which organization is overseen by a Club. It is reachable by boat.
Mortorio beach
Less than 2 miles from the stretch of coast between Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo there is Mortorio, an awesome island which surface - 12 hectares approx - is characterized by amazing beaches and a beautiful cliff. A Restriction on building protects this unpopulated island which is part of the National Park of the Archipelago of La Maddalena. The hinterland is densely covered with vegetation, mainly maquis and brooms. It is reachable by boat alone.
Soffi beach
The little island named Soffi is not far from Mortorio and is equally characterized by low crystal water and soft white sand. The most impressive area is called Piscine di Soffi (Soffi’s pools) because of tits resemblance to a proper pool, with sandy floor and emerald water, surrounded by rocks. Corsican Seagulls, one of the most rare protected species in the world, nidifies here. As Mortorio, it is reachable by boat alone.
Marinella beach
Protected from a predominant west wind, it is the biggest and most beautiful beach in this area. It is reachable following the road that from Porto Rotondo leads to Marinella, turning left straight after the entrance to the park of Hotel Abi d’Oru. The sandy shore has extra white and fine sand. Low sandy seafloor make this beach particularly suitable for bathing and for children playing. On the beach there are several facilities, hotels, restaurants and pizza restaurants.
Punta degli Asfodeli
It is composed of several little beaches and rocky creeks. To reach it, turn right a few hundred meters after the fork to Marinella.
